Colin Webster + Sylvia Hallett + Lucia H Chung

No Longer Available

Delighted to host saxophonist Colin Webster, presenting his new solo album 'vs Amp', which explores the sonic possibilities of amplified baritone saxophone. Also on the bill are composer and improviser Sylvia Hallett, whose recent 'Bolt and Latch' release was one of the highlights of our TakuRoku series, and the excellent London-based Taiwanese experimental artist, Lucia H Chung.

Colin Webster

London based saxophonist Colin Webster is quickly establishing himself on the European avant-garde scene. Collaborating with some of the key figures in improvised and experimental music, Webster is known for working from extreme sonic palettes – from minimal to maximal, constantly pushing boundaries.

“The application of circular breathing techniques are essential to this ritual-ready, sustain-heavy sound, it seems. Fans of an ensemble like Phurpa might get as much out of it as jazz cadets into, say, Peter Brötzmann, and if you happen to be the sort of wildcat who likes both, then Vs Amp is likely your kind of journey into sound.” – Noel Gardner, The Quietus

Sylvia Hallett

Sylvia Hallett is a composer and improviser, working with instruments (violin, hurdy-gurdy, saw,) and objects (bowed bicycle wheel, bowed branches etc) alongside simple live sound processing. She has worked extensively with dancers and in theatre, most recently with choreographer Miranda Tufnell on a tour of outdoor site specific venues in Northumberland. Recent albums: Tree Time and Bolt and Latch.

Lucia H Chung

Taiwanese experimental artist based in London. Performs and releases music under the alias ‘en creux’ where the sound creation springs from their fascinations in noise generated via feedback on digital and analogue equipment, and their role as a ‘mediator-performer’ in the multifaceted relationship between the sonic events incurring within the self-regulated system.
