A great triple bill presented by the acclaimed Babel Label featuring the spontaneous group improvisation of percussion and brass octet, Brass Mask, London-based group Fofoulah - who mix Senegalese voice and West African rhythms with dub basslines, sci-fi synths, and raw guitars - and Hello Skinny, the brainchild of in-demand drummer extraordinaire Tom Skinner (Sons Of Kemet, Melt Yourself Down, Matthew Herbert).
BRASS MASK
Brass Mask is an octet of percussion and seven horns delivering loping riffs, growling basslines and the old-time church spiritual groove of the American deep south. Their expansive sound is simultaneously mournful yet jubilant, taking the forms of gospel, Haitian rara and the flamboyant African American street bands of New Orleans Mardis Gras as reference points for spontaneous group improvisation.
FOFOULAH
Fofoulah is a London-based group mixing Senegalese voice and West African rhythms with dub basslines, sci-fi synths, raw guitars and intense grooves. Featuring musicians from Senegal, the UK and The Gambia, Fofoulah blend genres and cultures to create a sound which is unique in the UK music scene
HELLO SKINNY
Hello Skinny is the brainchild of in-demand drummer extraordinaire Tom Skinner, who's other current involvements include Sons Of Kemet, Melt Yourself Down, Matthew Herbert, The Grip w/ Finn Peters and Oren Marshall, Owiny Sigoma Band and Mulatu Astatke. Taking its cue from a song by The Residents, the project is Skinner's first as bandleader, composer and producer and sees him exploring areas around and between psych-dub, electronics, downtown/freak jazz and folk stylings.
