Fergus Quill is a composer and Improviser based in Leeds whose reputation for original compositions and projects reflects an eclectic spectrum of influences ranging from Sidney Bechet to Boredoms. He is the founder of Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band. a band known for their relentless enthusiasm, membership of 20-30 musicans and a punk ethos, earning them a reputation for explosive live performances that drag big band music kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. For fans of The Sun Ra Arkestra, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, Bowling, Godzilla and Mexican-American restaurants.

Outside the big band, Fergus has played and collaborated with musicians such as Orphy Robinson, Sam Eastmond, Hermeto Pascoal, and Marshall Allen. He has had the distinct pleasure of playing with both Evan Parker and Shirley Bassey. He was recently featured on Mexican television, performing John Zorn’s Bagatelles at the Cervantino festival, directed by Sam Eastmond. Current projects include reimaginings of the work of 80s Avant-wonk Leeds saxophonist/busker/inventor Xero Slingsby, and ‘Bird Talk,’ a selection of Dadaist cut pieces using the music of Charlie Parker.
