SOLO:DUO:TRIO is a monthly night of improvised performances bringing together a wide variety of musicians and artists. Each show features a solo, a duo, and a trio performance where performers are invited to present something new or play with a person they haven’t played with before in an intimate and open environment.

Lina Lapelyte is an artist, composer, musician and performer. She says of her practice, ‘it can be placed ‘in-between’; in-between classical and experimental, music and fine art, composing and improvising.’ Initially trained as a classical violinist in Lithuania Lina showed an interest in experimental music from early on. Her experience playing with the likes of David Toop, John Butcher and Anton Lukoszevieze within the London improvised music scene in 2006 radically changed her way of composing, her pieces becoming frameworks for improvisations rather than finished compositions. Questioning the importance of musical training became another strand in her work leading her to incorporate untrained performers in unorthodox ways. Her opera Have a Good Day! examines issues of displacement, otherness and beauty through piano, electronics and text. It involves using actual cashiers from local supermarkets for the vocal strand of the piece. Another piece, Candy Shop, reworks the games of power embedded in rap songs, making them into lullabies while narrating a story about beauty, gender and the mundane. ‘Lina is working right at the edge of what popular music could become.’ Brian Eno
John Edwards is a true virtuoso whose staggering range of techniques and boundless musical imagination have redefined the possibility of the double bass and dramatically expanded its role, whether playing solo or with others. Perpetually in demand, he has played with Evan Parker, Sunny Murray, Derek Bailey, Joe McPhee, Lol Coxhill, Peter Brötzmann, Mulatu Astatke and many others.

Rie Nakajima is a Japanese artist working with installations and performances that produce sound, often using a combination of kinetic devices and found objects. She has exhibited and performed widely both in the UK and overseas and has produced ‘Sculpture’ with David Toop since 2013. She also has a collaborative project ‘Dead Plants/Living Objects’ with Pierre Berthet, and recently released the CD ‘Dethick’ with Angharad Davies and Alice Purton.
London based saxophonist Colin Webster is quickly establishing himself on the European avant-garde scene. Collaborating with some of the key figures in improvised and experimental music, Webster is known for working from extreme sonic palettes – from minimal to maximal, constantly pushing boundaries.

Tom White is a London-based artist. His multidisciplinary practice spreads across sound, moving image, installation and live performance. Past projects include commissions and appearances for Radiophrenia, Glasgow (CCA); BRAUBLFF (KRAAK & De Player); Whitechapel Gallery, London & Colour out of Space Festival, Brighton. Collaborators include Maya Dunietz, Kieron Piercy, Ben Knight, Stuart Chalmers and most recently in Al Fresco with Lia Mazzari & Sholto Dobie. He has released music through labels such as Takuroku, Glistening Examples, Vitrine, Chocolate Monk, Singing Knives, Calling Cards Publishing and My Dance the Skull. He won the British Composer Award in 2014 (Sonic Art) for Public Address, commissioned by South London Gallery. In 2016 founded Apologies in Advance; a platform for artists presenting work in progress performances.
Born in Tokyo 1971, studied musicology at the Kunitachi College of Music, graduating in 1996. During this period he began to play the electronic pieces by John Cage and his own sound performances. Since then he has been creating sound performances, installations and videos. In 2003 Morimoto moved to Berlin, has performed and exhibited in many international festivals including transmediale in Berlin, Experimental Music Festival in Munich. He is interested in the uncertain acoustic appearances between usual objects, for example water and stones, and the technical medium.
He has collaborated with Takehisa Kosugi, Keitetsu Murai, Olivier Di Placido, Francesco Cavaliere, Olaf Hochherz, Rius van Alebeek, Ignaz Schick, Luciano Maggiore, Crys Cole, Felicity Mangan, Alessandra Eramo, Nicolas Wiese, Kakawaka, Seijiro Murayama, Jamie Drouin, Hannes Lingens, Johnny Chang, Katsura Yamauchi, Makoto Oshiro, Yan Jun and many others.
