Jean-Luc Guionnet / Pierre-Antoine Badaroux / Seymour Wright (trio) + Jean-Luc Guionnet performs 'Totality'

No Longer Available

For over a decade the alto saxophonists Jean-Luc Guionnet, Pierre-Antoine Badaroux and Seymour Wright have performed together a series of successive solos. Mostly in Paris. Each time, in each space. the sequence of solos changes.

Also on the bill, Jean-Luc Guionnet performs his monumental 'Totality', which was one of the highlights of our TakuRoku series.

Jean-Luc Guionnet

"My musical work subdivides itself into as many ways as occasions arise for me to think and act with sound and forms. Those occasions have always to do with a strong meeting with an outside element : an instrument (saxophone/organ), a theoretical idea (what is "rumour"?), and mainly a collaborating friend (Lotus Edde Khouri, Éric La Casa, Thomas Bonvalet, Seijiro Murayama) ... or the long term adventure of a team (Hubbub, Ames Room, Jupiter Terminus ...). There then follows a collection of themes which, in turn, influence the evolution of the musical work and define the direction of meetings to come: the thickness of the air, the pidgin, the musical instrument considered as affective automaton, sound as a signature of space, signature of objects, signature of what it is not... The coming emotion is made out of all these strata and the sliding of one over the other during the act of listening. When music is giving time."

Pierre-Antoine Badaroux

Pierre-Antoine Badaroux, saxophone player, composer, producer and teacher, is an active member of contemporary European musics. His work focuses on an exploration of the relationships between music writing, composition, predefined, undefined and improvised forms. All those concerns are deeply rooted inside his multiple productions: as a performer in the Hodos ensemble, a composer in his sextet, a solo improviser, an archivist as producer and member of Umlaut Records label, a teacher at Lille conservatory, a be-bop deconstruction worker with Peeping Tom quartet or a rebuilder of the music and dance from the 30s with the Umlaut Big Band.

Seymour Wright

Seymour Wright is a saxophonist. His work is about the creative, situated friction of learning, ideas, people and the saxophone – music, history and technique – actual and potential.

Seymour's solo music is documented on three widely-acclaimed collections - Seymour Wright of Derby (2008), Seymour Writes Back (2015) and Is This Right? (2017).

Current projects include: @xcrswx with Crystabel Riley; abaria with Ute Kanngiesser; [Ahmed] with Antonin Gerbal, Joel Grip and Pat Thomas; GUO with Daniel Blumberg; XT with Paul Abbott; The Creaking Breeze Ensemble; a trans-atlantic duet with Andy Guthrie, and, with Jean-luc Guionnet a project addressing an imaginary lacunae in Aby Warburg's Atlas Mnemosyne.
