Cwmwl Tystion / Witness

Cwmwl Tystion / Witness Trumpeter Tomos Williams has assembled a cast of brilliant Welsh musicians to perform a new work which reflects on the extraordinary times that we live in.

The band will perform a newly composed Suite incorporating elements of jazz, the avant-garde, improvisation and Welsh folk music. The name 'Cwmwl Tystion' is derived from a poem by the great Welsh poet Waldo Williams - the music "bares witness" to these complex and difficult times. This will be the first time Huw Warren (Quercus) and Rhodri Davies (Hen Ogledd), both leaders in their field and musicians of international reputation, perform together, while Mark O'Connor, Huw V Williams and Francesca Simmons all bring unique contributions to the project. Simon Proffitt will also be accompanying the performances with live visuals, interacting with the music in real time. 'The Cwmwl Tystion Suite' has been funded by Tŷ Cerdd, and the tour is made possible by generous Arts Council of Wales financial support.

Mae'r trwmpedwr Tomos Williams wedi dod â chriw o gerddorion arbennig o Gymru ynghyd i berfformio cyfansoddiad newydd sydd yn ymdrin â'r presennol a digwyddiadau hanesyddol, gwleidyddol a cymdeithasol yng Nghymru.

Bydd y band yn perfformio suite newydd o gyfansoddiadau sy’n cynnwys elfennau o jazz, yr avant-garde, byrfyfyrio a cherddoriaeth werin Cymru. Daw'r enw 'Cwmwl Tystion' o waith un o feirdd pennaf Cymru, Waldo Williams, a bydd y gerddoriaeth yn 'tystio' i'r oes sydd ohoni. Hwn fydd y tro cynta' i Rhodri Davies (Hen Ogledd) a Huw Warren (Quercus) berfformio gyda'i gilydd – mae’r ddau yn gerddorion Cymreig unigryw a chanddyn nhw ddilynwyr yn fyd-eang. Mae Mark O'Connor, Huw V Williams a Francesca Simmons yn cynnig egni a phrofiadau cerddorol amrywiol a chyfoethog, a’r cyfan wedi’i ategu gan Simon Proffitt, a fydd yn creu delweddau gweledol byw wrth i'r cerddorion berfformio.

Cafodd 'Suite Cwmwl Tystion' ei hariannu gan Dŷ Cerdd ac fe dderbyniodd y daith gefnogaeth gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru.
