Sadly, Tony Marsh died on the 9th of April. A regular player on the London improvising scene and a favourite here at OTO, Tony was playing incredible music only weeks before he died including two fabulous nights here in March with Roscoe Mitchell and John Edwards.
According to The Guardian's Richard Williams Marsh had a: "marvelous ability to erase the boundary between time and no-time" and "an exquisite feeling for percussive texture". You can read John Fordham's Obituary in the Guardian here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/apr/23/tony-marsh
He was originally scheduled to appear on this date in his trio with Shabaka Hutchings and Guillaume Viltard. The evening will now run as a tribute to him with performances from many of Tony's regular musical collaborators.
The line-up for the night has been revised and will now feature four sets:
1. Shabaka Hutchings, Guillaume Viltard, Steve Noble
2. Hannah Marshall, Alison Blunt, Neil Metcalfe, Orphy Robinson
3. Evan Parker, John Edward, Mark Sanders
4. All of the above.
Unfortunately, Javier Carmona is no longer able to appear at this concert.
