PAAP
PAAP is a free - jazz improv trio from Osaka, Japan members include Makoto Inada on double bass and vocal, Yasuhisa Mizutani on sax and Koichiro Katori on piano. PAAP was discovered by John Zorn on his Tzadik label, as part of the New Japan series in 2005. Originally known as RADAR, one of their defining features is the Japanese soul they inject into their exploration of jazz history, homing in on small acoustic jazz combos.
“Here is a young trio of musicians from the Kansai area on soprano sax, bass and piano who have created a remarkably original world of sound. Although one can hear occasional influences from Steve Lacy and the Jimmy Giuffre Three, this music is uniquely Japanese in its sense of sound, space and time . This is really something special" – Tzadik Records
PAAP is one of the most exciting and active trios within the present Japanese improvised music scene. Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo the Kansai prefectures are famous hubs for new music. Inada was involved in setting up the late- much missed venue Bridge in Osaka which witnessed the most cutting edge music and sound art such as the Beyond Innocence Festival.
Having run his own label Tana releasing a number of unique recordings including Brazil, Aurora and Bikemondo, Inada also performs with other respected artists such as Seiichi Yamamoto, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Yoshihide Otomo, Haco and Afrirampo to name a few.
