Electronica meets 21st century-jazz and dance music in Portico Quartet’s melodic, rhythmic music that mixes the inspiration of Steve Reich with a very contemporary kind of jazz improv that draws on dub-step, electronica, rock, ambient and dance music. It’s the blend of ethereal and fiery saxophones, electronics, otherworldly Hang, pulsing drums and earthy bass that gives their music it’s unique sound. Their hook-laden, darkly atmospheric post-jazz has pushed them to the forefront of the contemporary music scene and tonight's intimate show will feature new member Keir Vine as the band debut their latest tunes for a hometown audience.

“Isla feeds on Steve Reich mathematics, Radiohead dread, African desert grooves and ECM northern melancholy to travel into a new, chiming cavernous sound-world that is both exotic and hypnotic.” MOJO ****
