Double bill presenting two artists with radically different approaches to generating waves of immersive sound. Jon Mueller's snare rolls and tape concerto 'I Almost Expect to be Remembered as a Chair' and Pimmon sharing fine-grained torrents of sound from his laptop.

JON MUELLER

As a drummer and percussionist, Jon Mueller has performed solo and in various groupings throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. His recordings have been released by record labels such as Table of the Elements, Polyvinyl Records, Type Recordings, Jagjaguwar, Hometapes, and many others.

Over the past 25 years, Mueller has become increasingly focused on recognizing the dialog between sound and the situation it’s presented in, often bypassing standard approaches to percussion and considering acoustics and concepts surrounding the work in order to create a larger experience for those listening. The experience of sound, both on it’s own and in performance, can be intense, personal, and physically effective.

Mueller has worked with members of the groups Swans, Wilco, Bon Iver, and Rhys Chatham's Guitar Trio, as well as being a founding member of the groups Pele, Collections of Colonies of Bees, and Volcano Choir. He has also collaborated with artists such as James Plotkin, Marcus Schmickler, Bhob Rainey, Dan Burke, Asmus Tietchens, Lionel Marchetti, Z'EV, Jason Kahn, Jack Wright and many others.

PIMMON

Over the past decade and a half, Pimmon (aka Paul Gough) has carved out a unique space for himself by producing a series of masterfully executed excursions into abstract electronic sound. The so-called 'Godfather of Australian Laptop music' Pimmon is recognised internationally as one of a handful of artists pushing the boundaries of music and digital composition. His music creates a dense, emotive, compelling and challenging listening experience through a combination of pop, minimal composition, exotic drones and field recordings.

With his latest edition 'The Oansome Orbit' for Lawrence English's ROOM40 imprint, he strikes out at some of his most harmonic territory to date, merging washes of rich tone against irregular grids of texture. The results are wholly individual and utterly consuming.

"The Oansome Orbit is about connection and disconnection. In playing with micro loops of sound - macro listening worlds are made; universes of white noise wash, blurry melancholic tones, jagged granular debris. As all these seemlingly disconnected sounds orbit each other, often I feel transported to somewhere vast - distant - majestic; yet in the process I feel a great sense of loss, being 'oansome'."- Pimmon

"This is intricate music, compiled by a master at work, experienced in his field but approaching sound with the innovation of one in love with the sounds he uses, and the bravery to play with sound to create something other." - fluid radio

Paul has recorded for various international labels including Tigerbeat6 (US) Sirr (Portugal) and Fat Cat (UK). He was also part of collaboration between Oren Ambarchi, Fennesz, Peter Rehberg and Keith Rowe that recorded the recently reissued 'Afternoon Tea' and has forthcoming releases scheduled: ‘Lay Down Real Slow’ [Stunned Records] and a collaboration with Fabio Orsi ‘Procrastination’ on Home Normal.

A tireless champion of outsider sounds, Paul has worked in the Radio/Broadcast industry for 29 years and currently hosts the eclectic ambient program, The Quiet Space for ABC Radio National.
