Mystery Plays Records presents a night of adventurous laptop electronics. Just back from a residency at STEIM (Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music) in the Netherlands, Icarus perform a rare London show previewing material from their forthcoming album. Support from Danish IDM/Jazz pioneers Badun (Rump Recordings) and Inch-time (Mystery Plays).

ICARUS

Icarus is the experimental electronic duo of Ollie Bown and Sam Britton. So far this year, they have produced a flurry of remixes for the artists Caribou, Inch-time and Eclectic Method featuring Chuck D.

Imminently forthcoming is their collaborative limited-edition vinyl EP with Danish electronica duo Badun, with whom Icarus' musical affinity is clearly audible. Tonight brings a rare chance to hear their unique blend of sculpted hyper-rhythms and microtonal flutter at Café Oto.

BADUN

Hello! We are a Electronic/Jazz group. Badun's adventurous, and narrative music is the product of (Oliver Duckert & Aske Krammer). The music is somewhere in between abstract digital sound design, Non-repetitive electronica, IDM and the free spirit of seventies fusion Jazz.

“Probably the most elaborate programming of cyber-jazz to date.” - Bernd Friedmann (Burnt Friedman/Flanger)

“You seldom come across electronic music like this nowadays and it's rarer still that it's this well executed.” - Boomkat (UK)

INCH-TIME

Since releasing his earliest records back in 2003, Stefan Panczak, aka Inch-time, has quietly forged an irrepressible niche which has taken on a life of its own. His subtle melding of gleaming electronica and a whole host of other ingredients – from dub to folk textures, and languid jazz stylings to post-rock atmospheres – has evolved to take in new elements while sticking to the unique approach which Panczak has made his signature since his debut album, 2005’s Any Colour You Like.

The Floating World, the third Inch-time album, finds Panczak on the cusp of a new beginning. It marks the first release on his new self-run label, Mystery Plays Records, and as such is the latest stage in Inch-time’s evolution. With an enchanting melodic grace reminiscent of Philip Glass, Panczak’s minimal and achingly fragile electronica soars and glides, bewitching with its slow- burning and otherworldly touches.

"Gently burning IDM melancholia from Static Caravan's Inch-time this time rolling on Mystery Plays. He sets up the record with a flex of analogue Kosmische, touches by jazz-flecked electronica and tugs our heart with mournful ambient drones kissed by synth playing that pours down on you like tear-drops. Tip for fans of Susuma Yokota, Isan." – Bleep
