THURSDAY 5th August 2010

Times : 8pm

Tickets : £4 Tickets on the door Only

A monthly series of salon events, hosted by The Wire magazine, and dedicated to the fine art and practice of thinking and talking about music. The evenings, which take place on the first Thursday of each month, will consist of talks, discussions, panel debates, film screenings, DJ sets and even the occasional live performance.

The series continues in August with an illustrated talk by The Wire’s editor-at-large Rob Young based on his forthcoming book Electric Eden: Unearthing Britain’s Visionary Music. The book, which is published this month by Faber And Faber, tells the story of folk, folk-rock, psychedelia and the British imagination spanning the past century, from the Edwardian folk-collecting boom via Shirley Collins, Pentangle, Nick Drake, Sandy Denny, John Martyn and The Incredible String Band to Kate Bush, Talk Talk, Julian Cope and the Ghost Box label. The talk, which will be illustrated with film and audio clips, will be followed by a discussion of some of the book’s central themes; plus DJ Jonny Trunk spinning the sounds of wyrd and wired Britain.
