Alessi’s Ark
Alessi’s Ark is 19 year old Alessi Laurent-Marke. Her beautiful debut album, Notes From The Treehouse, was released in May 2009, featuring full band versions of some of the songs from her Bedroom Bound EP as well as newer creations. The album also featured many musicians that inspired her to begin making music including Jake Bellows of Neva Dinova and Nate Walcott from Bright Eyes. It was recorded in Nebraska by another inspirational figure to Alessi, producer Mike Mogis. Alessi has since gone on to release The Horse EP and has a second EP, Soul Proprietor, due out in early 2010.
Rachael Dadd
To say that Rachael Dadd is one of the busiest underground folk artists we've encountered would be a massive understatement. Constantly travelling, constantly writing- she's at her most content whilst playing low-key intimate gigs, whether at a small church in England, a gallery in Japan or a bookshop in France. Her recordings are often born from late nights at home plugged into her 8-track, self recorded and self released. When she's not playing, she's sewing album sleeves and record bags. A true DIY artist in every sense of the word.
Rachael Dadd is an artist you discover by chance and it's since a chance encounter at a London basement venue earlier in the year that we've fallen in love with her sound, a sound she crafted whilst working on the ferries in Bristol (with other such stunning collaborators as Rozi Plain and This Is The Kit). Her experiences during this time have had a huge influence on her music - songs sparkle with a wide-eyed wonder and exhibit a fascination for the everyday magic of life.
Rachael turns her hands to a multitude of instruments including banjo, clarinet, piano, guitar & harmonium. Her forthcoming release "Moth In The Motor" (due out Feb 2010) will be a collection of Rachael's piano songs - released on 10" vinyl, strictly limited to 300 pressings, hand numbered, with every sleeve hand painted using linocuts made by Rachael herself. Every single pressing will be unique and handmade to the last detail. Even the paper used for the sleeves is handmade- ethically sourced Lokta from villages in the Himalayas. To celebrate this release, we're inviting artists to submit their own sleeves to go on display as part of the Moth In The Motor Arts Project – www.brokensoundmusic.com/mothinthemotor.htm
