The Sealed Knot (Burkhard Beins - percussion & electronics/ Rhodri Davies -harp & electronics / Mark Wastell - tam-tam)
Chris Burn (piano)+ Simon Fell (bass)
Stephen Cornford & Samuel Rodgers (piano & piano feedback)
The Sealed Knot were one of the key groups in the wave of New London Silence which swept over improvised music a decade ago. They have continued to play together sporadically over the past 10 years, continually shifting their battery of instruments to explore new soundscapes. This istheir first performance for nearly two years, and will be the first time the group has incorporated Mark Wastell's tam-tam into their set-up. The concert launches their new cd 'and we disappear' on the Another Timbre label.
Chris Burn is one of the earliest and most accomplished exponents of 'inside piano' playing, constantly uncovering new sounds from the belly of the instrument. Since emerging in a duo with John Butcher in the early 1980's, he has played and recorded with virtually all the major names in improvised music in Europe, and tonight is also launching a new disc on Another Timbre, 'The Middle Distance'.
Stephen Cornford is better known for his sound sculptures and installations (see www.scrawn.co.uk) than for improvisation, but using feedbackhe has established a fascinating improvising duo with pianist Samuel Rodgers. They too are launching a new disc, 'Turned Moment, weighting' on the Another Timbre Byways off-shoot label.
